Frequently asked questions

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How do I type hha (ح) on the Arabic 101 keyboard?

Press the P key — hha is reached by your right pinky from the top row.

How do I tell hha (ح) apart from ha (ه)?

Hha (ح) is a heavy, throaty h made by tightening the back of the throat — no English equivalent. Ha (ه) is the same sound as English "h" in "hello". The two letters look completely different (ح is a bowl shape, ه is more rounded).

Is there an easy way to learn the hha sound?

Try fogging up a mirror — the warm "ha" sound you produce is close. Then make it tighter, deeper in the throat, almost like a whisper push. It takes practice, but most learners reach a reasonable approximation in a few weeks.
